An interesting turn of events...

This little love of mine turned 7 on Tuesday.  I can not believe how much she has grown in the past year! I keep telling her that she needs to stop growing and stay little forever and she just won't listen.

The interesting turn of events relates to the continuing saga of the health issues in our home.  The kids are finally on the mend.  Coughing is dramatically improved.  Friday evening my husband returned from Italy and when he called to let me know he was stateside, I let him know that I was starting to come down with the sore throat that everyone else had.  I did not yet have any other symptoms, but assumed they were coming.  After a very restless night, I woke my husband early in the morning and asked him to call the doctors office for me.  My throat was on fire!  So swollen and sore, I was assuming it was strep.  In the doctors office I was given a once over and strep test which turned out negative so the assumption was made that my problem was viral.  So I was sent home and given the list of supportive care, and told to take ibuprofen and that the strep test would be send out for culture to confirm the negative result.  Well needless to say, I did not improve over the remainder of the weekend.  My husband was a complete trooper and took over all the household duties while I remained in bed for the whole weekend.  By Monday, my throat was so swollen I could no longer swallow the ibuprofen that I was taking.  So, hubby stayed home from work and forced me to go back to the doctors office.  Needless to say I am glad I went.  She was surprised that I was still in such bad shape and worse shape than over the weekend.  So, another strep test was given, negative once again.  The Saturday sample never went out for confirmation so this one was sent out.  She also tested me for mono just to make sure.  I was also sent home with a prescription for steroids to reduce the swelling and a antibiotic just to make sure to get any secondary bacterial infection.  I start to take the medication and by the miracle of the steroids was feeling better by Monday evening.  So, Tuesday I find out that my mono test was negative, praise God.  I am thinking then at this point that I have some other viral process at work, but I feel better so I don't mind so much any more.  Finally, Wednesday evening I get a call from the doctors office to let me know that my confirmatory culture was positive!  I actually did have strep throat just not one that was picked up by the rapid test.  She wanted to make sure that I was aware that I had to take all my antibiotic.  So the lesson to be learned here is make sure that if you have a negative in office strep test make sure they do send it out for confirmation.  You could have one of the small percentage of strep that is not picked up by the rapid test.  My husband is the trooper in all of this.  He was such a champ at getting laundry done, meals prepared, picking up items for Ainsley to share with her class on her birthday (no baking for me!), making the kids lunches and snacks for school and just in general completely taking over for me for 3 days.  Even though I was so ill, I was glad that I had prepared well for Ainsely's birthday beforehand.  The only thing that we had to change was getting store bought treats for the class as opposed to having home made treats.

Next week we are headed to Disney so I will not be posting until we get back.  Because I have been so sick I am totally unprepared for this trip so I will get off this computer and get to doing some chores.  Have a fabulous and healthy weekend all!

happy birthday, ainsley!

glad to hear you are feeling better and so thankful the strep should be completely gone by the time you go on vacation. {{long, hard hug}} take care of your sweet self, margie.

So sorry you were miserable. I'm sure your doctor learned a lesson! :)

Have a wonderful, memory-making trip! Love to you!

How was the coffee?

Coffee was good! Actually we ended up going to a nearby Panera. The Caribou Coffee that was originally in our plans had a kitchen fire that morning and as the sign on the door read, "We are closed due to technical difficulty." Maybe another time.
