And we are alone again...

My in-laws left on Monday morning.  Before even the rest of us were up.  Aidan happened to glance out my window after waking me just before 9 am and noticed the truck was gone.  So once again we are alone.  B was in town Monday night and cleaned the basement and reclaimed it as his own.  I think he enjoys having use of his cave again.  I was left with all the  extra laundry and bathroom cleaning chores.  Tuesday he headed out of town again.  The house is so quiet with just the kids and me.  I am letting them play outside longer this evening again so I hear their shouts along with those of the neighbor children.

I talked to B for a bit Monday night about the feeling that I had from his FIL.  He was not very good about staying on top of having the trailer repairs started.  He just kept letting things go and letting things go.  I had the feeling that my FIL was happy as a clam to stay here for a month or more if necessary while waiting on repairs to be done before heading back.  My MIL was much more anxious to head home.  She even spoke of giving up her cats at one point to a no-kill shelter so that they could continue on their journey.  I did tell her that the notion was ridiculous and that at the worst we would keep them for a while.  B agreed, the only reason they headed home now was because B had a sit down with his Dad to discuss how uncomfortable his Mom was becoming at the notion of staying with us endlessly.  Last week was quite difficult with us being at VBS in the evenings and Ainsley needing naps during the day.  She was also going to her summer reading program as well in the mornings.  The kids go back to school in a few weeks as well, and I was concerned that we would have to cancel our trip.  Even though they say we need to go about our business, that in fact does not happen.  The kids don't get out to play with their friends.  They don't even go outside without me begging while we have the grandparents here.  Not a healthy thing for long periods of time.  They will be inside plenty once school starts up again.  Anyway, so I go to bed one evening trying to absorb the fact that they could be here up to another month, and the next morning FIL informs us that they are leaving Monday.  Strange time indeed.  We were told the trailer would be ready 2 weeks from Friday, but this company does not have the best track record.  FIL gave the go ahead for repairs, but as of Friday all they had done was prepare photos and submit paperwork to the insurance.  Repairs had not yet started as of the day they left.  I told my hubby that I understand how MIL feels.  It is difficult to be a guest in someone's home for a long period of time, a week with my in-laws is almost too much.  I can't imagine being there and not having a set time to leave.  No way, we would have to make other plans.  Ah well, I don't know.  MIL did ask me what I would do in her shoes and I did have to admit, I would not have an RV in the first place.  Most likely though, I would be more comfortable making other plans for my trip and going on after the initial planned visit was over.  I would just be more comfortable with that.  Any one have thoughts?  I try to be a good host and a gracious guest, but it is difficult for long visits don't you think?

Well, after getting a good chunk of my remaining laundry done today, I spent some time getting organized for back to school shopping.  I can't believe it is August already!  With our trip next week, I am going to have to hit the ground running with back to school shopping when we get back.  I pulled out the school supply lists today as well as my bin of school supplies and crossed off what I need from what I don't.  I am going to minimize how much clothing shopping the kids do with me this year.  It gets too aggravating with them sometimes.  So, what I will try to do is take them of the shoe shopping excursion as both need shoes and feet measured, as well as take Aidan on one jean shopping excursion.  Not thinking I can get away with buying him jeans without trying them on this year.  Trying to have a bit of fun this last few weeks as well.  Hoping for at least some lake trips, here and in Wi and maybe a trip or two to the ice cream shop.  Who knows.  Have a great week all.

Yes, long visits are very taxing! Seven days is as long as I like. And being at someone else's house is very hard as well. I sympathize with your MIL. I am sure you are very gracious and make it as comfortable for her as possible.

Have a nice trip! I hope you get pleasant weather.
