Changes...

are interesting aren't they.  We have had so many in this house lately.  One silly one that has me completely confounded is my hair.  Yes, my hair!  My hair has been stick straight for my entire life.  From the beginning always so straight that it would barely hold a curl unless I had a perm.  I did perm my hair for many of my high school and college years.  Finally I embraced the straight hair when I turned 20, cutting the last of my permed hair off and going with a shoulder length bob.  My husband thankfully never saw the permed hair as I met him after I made this style change.  Since then I have always worked with my straight hair and bumping the ends under with either a round brush or a curling iron if I was in a hurry.  In the last 2 years though, my hair has changed dramatically.  Now I can only achieve the straight look by using a blow dryer and a flat iron.  It is wavy!  Seriously people, if I let my hair air dry I look like my hair has been in braids.  My stylist is as surprised as I am.  I always thought that it was because of the highlights I have been having done every couple of months or so, but really my hair is waviest underneath where there is no color at all.   Go figure.  When I don't have to be anywhere right away in the morning and I can let my hair air dry I have been wearing it wavy.  Thankfully the hubby likes it.  Just a weirdness that is on my mind lately.

I am having a much better start of the week than the last.  Last week was a rough one in various respects which I may go into at another time.  I finally had an Ainsley issue addressed though.  After the Christmas break, she had a hearing test at school which she proceeded to fail.  She had one at her well check last year and passed and has always passed before.  Once I get our insurance sorted out and find a clinic and Dr where I can take her, we finally have a resolution.  Otitis Media.  Ear infection.  They caught the thing brewing before she even had any pain.  Needless to say we just finished a round of antibiotic and go back for a recheck in a few weeks.  What a blessing this was something minor.  I hope this clears up because this is the same child that almost needed tubes at about a year and a half and was getting daily antibiotic injections for a few days to clear up a raging infection she had.  Anyway, at this point all seems to be well!  I will try to post more regularly these days.  Hoping to have my act a bit better together this week.  Hugs!

Timmy (age 7) failed a hearing test at his physical yesterday at the doctor's office. We suspected a problem because his hearing was noticeably worse over the past few months.

He was treated for his first ear infection ever late last year. Turns out, while the infection cleared up, the fluid remained--behind the eardrum. I was surprised to learn that inner ear fluid does not hurt--it's just mildly annoying. I guess when pus sets in, that is when it can get painful, but the outer ear infections (swimmer's ear) are the really painful ones. When we were told last year that he had an infection, we were surprised, as Timmy said he wasn't in pain.

He was put on another antibiotic yesterday and we will check again soon. I asked why he needed antibiotic if there was no pus or real infection, and he said it would help clear up the fluid.

If the fluid is still there and the hearing doesn't improve, he will see an ENT for possible tubes--which scares me because don't they use general anesthesia for that? Yikes!

Anyhow, it appears kids can have fluid in their ears and have no real symptoms, except maybe a change in hearing--at least until bacteria invade the fluid.

I will be praying for both our kids, that tubes will be avoided!
